A (Not So) Quick Update
So, I’m home from vacation and officially on vacation. I started a post in my PJs about a week ago but was interrupted by the Little Prince. (Yes, I mean Silas.) I can’t quite put a finger on how or why I’ve been so busy. But, it seems that another near-postless month has passed me by. Maybe I just have commitment issues.
So, for the update: Paul and I ended up having a pretty good time sans Silas. We swung by Charleston after visiting my parents and went to a brewery for a beer sampling and crab cakes and then walked along the bay. Back in Asheville, we went to the enoteca at Rezaz in Biltmore Village for create-your-own antipasta and a bottle of Avignonessi Rosso. Delicioso! At home, we lay an old blanket on our bed and had an Italian-style picnic. More cheese, more olives, more bread, more wine! A week later, for our anniversary, we recreated the picnic in our living room between Silas’s nighttime intrusions. (He’s taken to sleeping in our bed lately and couldn’t seem to manage to let us picnic alone.) That night we celebrated with a bottle of Avignonessi Desiderio Merlot. Not an inexpensive purchase but an essential one. (I had tasted this wine in Italy and, at the time, deemed it the best wine I had ever tasted! When I found it here, I had to find a reason to celebrate. Somehow, the imported version didn’t quite match my memory. It was still good, however.)
So, yeah, we lived (well) above our means, ate a lot of good food and enjoyed each other’s company. (For the most part… no need to embellish on the negative, right?)
My sister’s wedding in PA was simply awesome. Yeah, more food, more champagne, more penis pinatas. (The pinatas were for the bachelorette party– an event that was a lot of fun and would’ve been even more fun if, during some weird drunken confessional, my sister [not the bride] hadn’t blurted out some terribly disturbing sexual secrets. For your sake, I’ll keep them secret.) Anyhow, my sister looked so beautiful in her ivory and spice gown and the hand-passed scallop hors d’oeuvres were so G-D delicious, I ended up having some serious wedding envy. Still I managed to have a good time.
Oh yeah, my father, our friend Kevin, our friend Andrea, Paul and I were able to play a few little tunes at the wedding. It was nice to be making music together. Silas danced the night away. Seriously.
Right now, I must admit, I’m toasting again. My mother (who with my father so kindly came to be with us today) bought me a bottle of Biltmore Merlot to celebrate the fact that Silas made it through surgery without a hitch! He was a super trooper and is, this evening, playing like he doesn’t have two one-inch (I might be exaggerating a bit) incisions on his groin and another on his neck. The pre-op nurse said he was the best toddler she’d ever seen in terms of cooperation (she, for the record, was not exaggerating) and commented on his smarts. My mother says he’s very gifted. We’re really happy and really proud.
Now, I realize that I haven’t posted since we’ve gotten his EEG results. But, they came back normal. He’s NORMAL! Yeah! Whatever that means.
I have to stop here, but I wonder what I’m forgetting. I have had ideas to share, but haven’t taken the time to share them. I hope to make the time. But, now, I have to go visit with family.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
Thanks for your interest,
Emily

Yes, I do think he’s gifted (but of course I’m his Grandma and I could, and I stress could, be biased!) He was a trouper for his surgery and so were you. Glad you enjoyed the break and Grandma & Grampa got to have lots of Silas time. We look forward to lots of these breaks for you and time for us to spoil him-it’s a grandparents’ right! The wedding was beautiful but so was yours-so stop having any type of envy. And I would like more info on the secrets shared by your sister after I left the bachelorette party..:-)

I’m so glad Silas’ sugeries were successful and uneventful! Thank goodness that’s over and done with, right? It was great seeing you all at Shindig and hope we can hang out soon!
